Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
