World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extra-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
